On the 10th episode of MBC's 'Study is Money?', Kim Hyun-jung's family appeared. Kim Hyun-jung married pastor husband Kim Bu-hwan, who is three years younger, in 2008, and they have a fifth-grade son and a second-grade daughter in elementary school.
When Kim Hyun-jung described her husband as a "smart type," Mr. Kim revealed, "I was lucky to do well on the college entrance exam, ranking in the top 1.8%," and added, "When I took an IQ test in high school, I scored 146."
Kim Hyun-jung said, "I selfishly hope the children inherit my husband's intelligence and do well in their studies, but I worry they might take after me. So when I try to push them to study hard, my husband says, 'Don't push them too hard, just moderately,'" revealing the couple's contrasting educational views as a concern.
Regarding this, an education expert explained, "Genetic intelligence is very important in studying," and added, "Research shows that effort accounts for only 4% in studying. The remaining 96% is due to genetic intelligence and environmental factors. Of that, 70% is genetic influence and 30% environmental factors."
On this day’s broadcast, Kim Hyun-jung's parents-in-law appeared, attracting attention. Mr. Kim said, "My parents were good at studying. They were Seoul National University CC," surprising viewers.
Mr. Kim's mother, Yang Hye-kyung, is the author of 'Suhak-ui Jeongseok' (The Bible of Korean Mathematics), and she was known as a math prodigy from a young age.
Yang said, "Hong Sung-dae was an alumnus, and at his suggestion, I worked on writing 'Suhak-ui Jeongseok' for 38 years." On this day, Yang also helped her grandson with his math studies.
However, education experts watching this scene opposed the grandparents directly teaching their grandchildren. The expert explained, "Recently, in parent education sessions, about 20% of attendees in Gangnam and Seocho districts are grandparents."
He warned, "Because parents are not satisfied with their children, they show educational zeal even toward their grandchildren. There have been cases where grandchildren failed. If the parents do not take the lead, bad results can occur."
