Partial Remodeling of Gaebong-dong Lifelong Learning Center Building ... Equipped with Community Spaces and Classrooms
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Guro-gu (Mayor Lee Seong) recently opened a Public Interest Activity Support Center to meet the diverse public interest demands of residents.
On the 10th, Guro-gu announced that it will operate the 'Public Interest Activity Support Center' by remodeling part of the Lifelong Learning Center building located in Gaebong-dong (946 Nambusunhwan-ro).
The first floor of the building houses offices and a pantry, while the second floor has a community space and classrooms.
The Public Interest Activity Support Center supports nonprofit public interest activity organizations and residents' public interest activities.
It carries out projects such as venue rental, capacity-building education for public interest activists, consulting, support for building networks among public interest activity groups, operating public forums to resolve local issues, and investigating and discovering local resources.
Guro-gu plans to operate the Public Interest Activity Support Center step-by-step for stable settlement and continuous development.
Until October, it will collaborate by forming the Guro Citizen Cooperation Platform project team and a public-private operation team. The Guro Citizen Cooperation Platform consists of 11 civic organizations and promotes communication between civil organizations and between civil and public sectors through network activities, creating a foundation for cooperation. From November, it will be operated by entrusting it to a specialized public interest activity corporation (organization).
Prior to this, in November 2019, Guro-gu established the 'Ordinance on the Promotion of Public Interest Activities in Guro-gu, Seoul' to lay the groundwork for supporting activities.
This ordinance was prepared to guarantee residents' voluntary public interest activities and support healthy growth, aiming to promote public interest activities in the local community and sustainable development.
A Guro-gu official said, "Modern society is rapidly changing, and residents' demands for public interest activities are becoming more diverse," adding, "We will listen to voices from the field using the Public Interest Activity Support Center and prepare various support measures."
