According to the police, on May 26, a middle school student identified as A, who graduated from the elementary school two years ago, was caught illegally filming with a cellphone in the bathroom of an elementary school in Gyeongnam.
It is reported that the elementary school did not report this incident to the Office of Education despite being aware of it. According to regulations, sexual crime cases must be reported to the Office of Education.
Regarding this, a school official said, "Since the victim is a teacher, notifying others might cause secondary personal damage. It was an error on our part."
However, it is reported that the school effectively tried to hide the matter by instructing staff to keep quiet and even told the victimized teachers that it was not a big deal.
Due to the omission of the report, it is known that there were no protective measures for the victimized staff, nor counseling, medical, or legal support provided.
Later, after discovering the facts, the Gyeongnam Office of Education began a fact-finding investigation, including interviewing staff members.
Meanwhile, two teachers who installed hidden cameras were previously caught at two other schools in the Gyeongnam region.
