[Asia Economy Reporter Park So-yeon] It has been reported that Park Won-soon, the Mayor of Seoul, who was found dead around 12:01 a.m. on the 10th after leaving the mayor's official residence on the morning of the 9th, had called Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun before losing contact.
According to sources from the ruling party, Mayor Park was scheduled to have lunch with Prime Minister Chung the day before. One official stated, "There was no important issue to discuss," and added, "I understand it was a schedule set quite some time ago."
However, before the lunch, Mayor Park reportedly called Prime Minister Chung and said, "I am feeling unwell and will not be able to attend the lunch."
Prime Minister Chung visited the funeral hall set up at Seoul National University Hospital on the 10th to pay his respects and told reporters, "During the call, Mayor Park did not say much and expressed regret that he could not keep the appointment," adding, "I thought it was due to health issues."
When asked if Mayor Park mentioned any other concerns, Prime Minister Chung replied, "Not at all," and said, "I did not sense anything unusual compared to usual."
He also said, "He was someone who had many things to do for the citizens of Seoul, so this is very unfortunate."
