Jeonnam Provincial Assembly Member Kim Kyung-ja: "I Will Strive to Develop Policies Such as Youth Job Creation and Settlement Infrastructure"

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] The Jeonnam Provincial Council has launched full-scale activities by forming a ‘Youth Development Special Committee’ to communicate directly with young people and review youth policies.

According to the Jeonnam Provincial Council on the 10th, the council passed the ‘Resolution on the Formation of the Jeollanam-do Youth Development Special Committee’ at the 2nd plenary session of the 342nd regular meeting last month on the 17th, and will operate the special committee for six months from July 1 to December 31.

The newly formed Youth Development Special Committee was established to communicate directly with young people, listen to their difficulties, and reflect them to prepare comprehensive policy alternatives at the council level.

In addition, the committee plans to carry out multifaceted activities such as visiting youth policy implementation sites not only within the province but also in other cities and provinces to strengthen public responsibilities that guarantee the rights of young citizens and introduce social safety nets that meet the needs of youth.

The Youth Development Special Committee held a meeting on the 10th and elected Councilor Kim Kyungja (Democratic Party, proportional representation), who proposed the resolution, as chairperson, and Councilor Na Gwangguk from Muan as vice-chairperson. The committee consists of a total of 10 young councilors including Jo Okhyun, Lee Hyukje, Choi Seonguk, Park Moonok from Mokpo; Kim Gilyong from Gwangyang; Lee Hyunchang from Gurye; Park Jinkwon from Goheung; and Woo Seunghui from Yeongam.

Councilor Kim Kyungja said, “Due to the impact of COVID-19, the employment market has worsened, and a significant number of economically vulnerable young people remain in blind spots without benefiting from various policies and systems, deepening the crisis for the youth generation.”

She added, “Through the activities of the Youth Special Committee, we will take the lead in forecasting the changes and trends in the new economic and industrial paradigms brought by the post-COVID era, creating youth jobs and discovering policies to establish a foundation for youth settlement.”
