[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] On the 10th, when a heavy rain warning was issued, the Busan area experienced torrential rain exceeding 50mm per hour as if the sky had opened, causing flooding in various parts of the city and walls collapsing, resulting in continuous flood damage.

From the afternoon, urban streams overflowed, causing vehicles to be submerged.

The rain that poured all morning was more like a water bomb or a downpour than just heavy rain. The concentrated heavy rain in the morning caused the water level in urban streams to rise, leading to some urban streams overflowing or facing the risk of overflow from the afternoon.

According to the Busan police, around 12:10 PM, a stream near Dongcheon River beside the Nulwon Building on Jaseong-ro, Dong-gu, overflowed, submerging 5 to 6 vehicles. The water level of Daeyeoncheon in Daeyeon-dong, Nam-gu, also rose rapidly, prompting Nam-gu to send an emergency safety text message about the rising water level at 12:45 PM.

Earlier, around 11:55 AM, a retaining wall along a one-way street behind the Military Manpower Administration in Suyeong-gu collapsed due to heavy rain, causing soil to overflow and the road to be closed. Suyeong-gu is conducting emergency restoration work. In the Haeundae-gu area, roads and school playgrounds have also been repeatedly flooded.

Earlier, at 7:24 AM, the road in the subway construction section near Sasang Hyundai Motor Service in Hakjang-dong, Sasang-gu, was completely flooded.

Police, having received a 112 report that the road was almost submerged due to heavy rain, dispatched local police stations and traffic patrol cars to control the scene.

At around 8:20 AM, a 100-meter two-way section near Saebyeok Rotary on Saebyeok-ro, Sasang-gu, was flooded, leading to traffic control.

Also, at around 8:25 AM, the water level of Oncheoncheon in Dongnae-gu rose, causing the areas around Sebyeonggyo, Yeonangyo, and Suyeonggyo bridges to be closed.

The sections under police traffic control continue to increase along with the relentless heavy rain.

In the Haeundae area, two roads?the Olympic intersection toward the 2nd BEXCO direction and the road in front of Haegang Middle School?were fully closed.

In Busanjin-gu, two lanes in front of Samjeong Tower were blocked.

At 9:03 AM, flooding damage occurred when a vehicle was trapped in water on the road in front of the 2nd BEXCO Transfer Center.

To reduce citizen inconvenience caused by the rising rainwater, the police deployed 150 personnel from traffic and mobile units to major intersections with heavy vehicle congestion for special management.

A police official said, “We are mobilizing all available forces to conduct intensive patrol activities in flood-prone areas in the Busan region.”
