[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] The United Future Party has expressed doubts about the whereabouts of former CEO Lee Hyuk-jin, the founder of Optimus Asset Management, which is under suspicion of a 500 billion won fund fraud, and urged the prosecution to investigate.
Yoon Hee-seok, deputy spokesperson of the United Future Party, said in a statement on the 10th, "Immediately bring back former CEO Lee, the key figure in the Optimus scandal, and conduct a thorough investigation. The investigation of this case will be a touchstone for the public to judge what kind of prosecution we have these days."
Deputy spokesperson Yoon pointed out, "Former CEO Lee was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison with a 4-year probation in the second trial for sexual crime charges, and was under investigation by the prosecution as a suspect for separate charges such as embezzlement and tax evasion. Such a person freely left the airport departure gate without any restraint from the authorities, and coincidentally, his destination was the venue of the president's Vietnam visit."
He continued, "Meeting the Financial Services Commission chairman at the (visit venue) abroad cannot help but raise suspicions that the power of authority was at work. If someone around the power helped his departure under the pretext of accompanying the president's visit schedule, it is not something to overlook."
Deputy spokesperson Yoon criticized, "The Ministry of Justice must explain how former CEO Lee, who is a suspect, was able to quietly leave the departure gate. The Blue House must reveal how he was able to appear at the president's foreign visit venue and how he was able to meet the incumbent Financial Services Commission chairman."
