Three Female Marines Who Donated Their Hair

Three Female Marines Who Donated Their Hair Sergeant Kim Kyung-jin

[Asia Economy Reporter Yang Nak-gyu] Three female Marines have attracted attention by donating hair they grew for 3 to 4 years to children with cancer. The protagonists are Sergeant Kim Gyeong-jin (28) serving in the 9th Marine Brigade Information and Communications Unit, Captain Kim Mi-kyung (26), and Sergeant Kim Gyo-ryeong (25) of the Vanguard Brigade, 2nd Marine Division.

According to the Marines on the 10th, Sergeant Kim Gyeong-jin donated 30 cm of hair she grew over 4 years to the related organization Eomeona Movement Headquarters for children with cancer. The Eomeona Movement is an abbreviation for the "Hair Sharing Movement for Children with Cancer." They collect hair donations of 25 cm or longer to make special wigs, which are then donated to children with severe hair loss due to chemotherapy.

Wigs for cancer patients undergo antibacterial and sterilization treatments to reduce pressure and prevent skin troubles, as patients have weakened immune systems and are sensitive even to small wounds during chemotherapy. Because of this, these wigs are known to be sold at prices 2 to 3 times higher than regular wigs. The hair donated by Sergeant Kim will also be made into wigs through the organization and donated to children undergoing chemotherapy.

Sergeant Kim said, "After hearing the heartbreaking stories of children suffering from cancer at a young age, I decided to donate my hair," adding, "I will continue to take good care of my hair and donate regularly."

Captain Kim and Sergeant Kim of the Vanguard Brigade, 2nd Marine Division, who protect Incheon and Gimpo in Gyeonggi Province, also donated hair they grew for 3 to 4 years to the movement headquarters last month. Captain Kim said, "My parents told me that donating is sharing the most precious thing you have, so I decided to donate my hair," expressing, "It may be small, but I hope it gives great strength to children with cancer."
