[Asia Economy Reporters Lee Gwan-ju and Song Seung-yoon] Park Won-soon, the Mayor of Seoul, who was reported missing, was found dead on the 10th.
The police and fire authorities discovered Mayor Park's body in the mountains near Samcheonggak while searching the Bukaksan area, where his whereabouts were last confirmed.
Mayor Park was first found by a fire rescue dog deployed for the search. Personal belongings presumed to be carried by Mayor Park, such as a bag and a water bottle, were also found at the discovery site. It was reported that no notes containing a will were found at the scene.
The police believe Mayor Park took his own life and plan to investigate the exact circumstances.
Earlier, Mayor Park's daughter reported to 112 at around 5:17 p.m. the previous day, saying, "About 4 to 5 hours ago, my father left home after leaving what seemed like a will, but his phone is turned off."
Upon receiving the report, the police and fire departments conducted a search of the Bukaksan area for about seven hours.
