Following Garlic, Peach COVID-19 Farm Support Initiative
Goheung-gun - Lotte Mart & Super Farm Partnership Project Part 2
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Despite a 5-10% price increase, Goheung peaches are selling like hotcakes, effectively demonstrating the high-value-added product status and the premium marketing effect on the brand value of Goheung-gun's agricultural products.
On the 9th, Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do, announced that on the 8th it supplied 10 tons of Goheung peaches to Lotte Mart and Lotte Super to help peach farmers struggling with sales channels and price drops due to decreased consumption of agricultural and marine products caused by COVID-19.
To ease the increasingly difficult situation for farmers, the county negotiated with Lotte Mart and Lotte Super to ship Goheung peaches, reaching an agreement to supply about 10 tons, alleviating farmers' concerns.
Goheung-gun and Lotte signed a mutual business agreement last October to expand sales channels for Goheung agricultural and marine products, concluding a purchase contract worth 10 billion KRW. In May, they held a promotional event for Goheung garlic to support farmers affected by COVID-19, achieving sales of 100,000 bundles of garlic at an average price over 1,000 KRW higher per bundle.
Lee Janghyun, MD of Lotte Mart, said, “Goheung peaches grow under abundant sunlight and sea breeze, resulting in high sugar content and excellent quality, which we believe will be greatly loved by consumers,” adding, “We are pleased to help farmers facing difficulties due to COVID-19.”
A county official stated, “Following garlic, securing large-scale consumers for peaches has shown results. We will expand marketing to enhance the brand value of our county’s agricultural products and focus on securing sales channels for other crops as well, actively promoting various administrative policies to increase farmers’ incomes.”
Meanwhile, a promotional event for Goheung peaches was held on June 26 at Lotte Mart Seoul Station branch (Manager Park Changyeol), and peaches, which have officially started shipping, can be purchased at Lotte Mart and Lotte Super stores nationwide until the end of July.
