The Climate Center explained that the event was held to produce and provide climate prediction information with reduced uncertainty, share the latest research results and expertise on key issues in the field of climate prediction with experts, and conduct in-depth discussions on the development directions of climate prediction technology.
At the event attended by climate prediction experts from the Korea Meteorological Administration, the National Institute of Meteorological Sciences, universities, and related organizations, the current status of new AI technologies such as deep learning and machine learning was shared, along with information on directions for future application.
Kwon Won-tae, Director of the APEC Climate Center, said, "Through the 2020 Climate Prediction Workshop, the top domestic experts and researchers in the field of climate prediction had the opportunity to share the latest achievements in climate prediction technology development and discuss the proper development directions together." He added, "Through this, we will be able to effectively monitor abnormal climate phenomena such as heatwaves and typhoons, reduce losses to the national economy, and contribute to protecting the lives and property of the people."
