Dongseo University Introduces 'Real Hotel System' Course: Hotel or University? Dongseo University Haeundae Centum Campus.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Dongseo University has decided to implement a customized employment strategy by introducing an educational program that enhances the ability to utilize the management systems used by most hotels in its Hotel Management major.

The Department of Tourism’s Hotel Management major at this university has focused on the importance and necessity of PMS (Property Management System), which is used by the majority of hotels in the industry, and plans to conduct an educational program that enables students to understand PMS and acquire the practical skills required in the field.

In particular, a virtual hotel PMS with a capacity of 200 rooms has been established for the purpose of training on ORACLE’s ‘OPERA’, which is designated and used as the main PMS by global chain hotels.

The foundation was laid through the Centum Industrial Complex Campus development project carried out over the past three years, and it is also being reflected in the restructuring of the major curriculum.

The ‘2020 University Department Customized Employment Support Project’ is a program supported by Busan City that allows universities to provide customized vocational training programs necessary to enhance employment competitiveness and practical skills beyond the regular major courses, targeting graduates (or prospective graduates), and linking them to employment.

The Hotel Management major will receive support from this project by opening and operating the ‘Global Hotel Information System Practice (PMS-OPERA System)’ course.

Through this project, students graduating in 2021 will learn the OPERA operating system and acquire operational skills and management techniques required in practical work after employment.

During the second semester of 2020, using 162 hours of extracurricular courses, not only will hotel industry experts provide optimal lectures, but highly effective education such as corporate field training, CEO special lectures, and mentoring by senior alumni will also be conducted. Students who successfully complete the course and pass the exam will be awarded a certificate of completion for the OPERA training course and a performance bonus jointly issued with the hotel industry.

Based on this educational project, the Hotel Management major aims to establish a high-quality educational model for the PMS-OPERA curriculum and improve the practical competency development and field adaptability of major students through continuous curriculum enhancement in the future.

Furthermore, there is a long-term plan to build a major and extracurricular operation system for PMS education for Hotel Management students in the Busan area and to expand it to private certifications related to PMS-OPERA as a specialized educational institution.

Professor Moon Jeong-nam of the Hotel Management major said, “The PMS-OPERA course is currently the most demanded education in all hotel companies, but due to limitations in initial investment and maintenance costs, it is difficult for universities to secure a stable operating system. Dongseo University’s Hotel Management major has proactively introduced a systematic PMS-OPERA curriculum ahead of the times, supported by the school, government, and Busan City.”
