[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] On July 8th afternoon, Busan City summoned the US Consul General in Busan to express strong regret and request measures to prevent recurrence regarding the fireworks disturbance during the US Independence Day celebration on July 4th.
Busan City announced on the 9th that it expressed regret to the US Consulate over many Americans, including US Forces Korea personnel, setting off fireworks and not wearing masks at Haeundae Beach on the 4th, causing public anxiety.
It also conveyed that, as the whole world is striving for quarantine, compliance with quarantine guidelines due to the beach opening is more urgent, and hoped that Americans would take appropriate measures to actively participate in social distancing and mask-wearing in daily life.
On the 4th, US Forces Korea personnel visiting Busan for Independence Day leave caused disturbances by setting off fireworks at Haeundae, violating quarantine guidelines, and roaming the streets, resulting in about 70 reports. In this regard, the US Forces Korea Command expressed regret on the 7th.
