Hanwha Develops 'Porena Safety Door' to Prevent Children's Finger Injuries

[Asia Economy Reporter Onyu Lim] Hanwha Construction announced on the 9th that it has developed the ‘Forena Safety Door’ to prevent safety accidents involving children, the elderly, and others.

Among the total 8,936 finger entrapment accidents reported to the Korea Consumer Agency from 2014 to 2018, 45.2% occurred at home. In particular, more than half of the home accidents involved infants and toddlers, but safety devices were often not installed due to aesthetic and construction procedure reasons.

Considering the specific nature of finger entrapment accidents, Hanwha Construction has been researching safety doors for the past year and has completed the development of a concealed hinge that eliminates gaps between the door and door frame.

Compared to existing products, the installation process has been simplified, and through revolutionary performance improvements that preserve the design of existing doors, it is expected to enhance customer satisfaction.

The Forena Safety Door was developed in collaboration with ‘H-Cudos’. Both companies plan to actively cooperate in pioneering new sales channels and create a new model of mutual growth.

The Forena Safety Door will be gradually applied to Forena complexes, starting with ‘Forena Yeongdeungpo’ in Yeongdeungpo-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, which is scheduled for occupancy in November, taking into account the characteristics of each complex.

Hanwha Construction is currently applying for a patent for the Forena Safety Door product, which has passed 300,000 open-close tests.

Yoon Yong-sang, Head of the Architecture Business Division at Hanwha Construction, said, “Through the development of the ‘Forena Safety Door,’ following existing safety glass for shower booths and middle doors and the Safe Care sign for evacuation spaces, which consider customer safety, we will be able to strengthen Forena’s differentiated value.”

Forena is Hanwha Construction’s new residential brand, meaning ‘connection’ in Swedish, embodying Hanwha Construction’s commitment to creating a new residential culture through ‘connecting people and spaces.’ Since its launch in August last year, 8,633 households have been changed to Forena, and it is expected to exceed 20,000 households by the end of this year.
