[Asia Economy (Naepo) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Chungnam Province is creating eco-friendly energy towns in Buyeo and Cheongyang.
The province announced on the 9th that Buyeo-gun and Cheongyang-gun were selected as target sites in the Ministry of Environment's eco-friendly energy town creation contest project and will proceed with the project receiving 6 billion KRW in national funding.
The purpose of creating eco-friendly energy towns is to improve local residents' negative perceptions of environmental infrastructure facilities by recycling energy generated during the waste resource treatment process of avoidance and nuisance facilities, and to provide additional income to residents near waste treatment facilities.
Buyeo-gun was selected in the contest by proposing plans to utilize waste heat within the incineration facility (30 tons per day) such as ▲ generating income by cultivating watermelon seedlings through operating a glass greenhouse ▲ enhancing resident convenience by operating a resident health care center ▲ establishing an energy self-sufficiency system through installing solar power generation facilities.
Cheongyang-gun proposed a business model utilizing waste heat generated from the incineration facility (25 tons per day) for ▲ operating agricultural product drying facilities, green energy modular pensions, and outdoor swimming pools ▲ operating a healthcare center, jjimjilbang (Korean sauna), 3D education center, and caf?.
Song Young-ho, head of the Environmental Safety Management Division of the province, said, “We will improve negative perceptions of environmental infrastructure facilities through the eco-friendly energy town creation project in the province,” adding, “In particular, we will ensure that waste resource energy can be used as an opportunity for income increase and convenience enhancement for nearby residents.”
