Pilot Installation of 'Safety Shelter' at Crosswalks in Songpa-gu

Four Locations Including Olympic-ro and Songpa-daero... Avoid Snow and Rain, Ensure Bright Visibility at Night

Pilot Installation of 'Safety Shelter' at Crosswalks in Songpa-gu

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) will pilot the installation of 'Crosswalk Safety Shelters' in waiting areas of crosswalks with high pedestrian traffic to enhance pedestrian convenience and safety.

The 'Crosswalk Safety Shelter' is a space where pedestrians can wait more comfortably and safely at crosswalks.

It protects pedestrians from intense sunlight, snow, and rain, and at night, it uses bright floodlights to improve driver visibility, preventing pedestrian and traffic accidents.

The shelter measures approximately 4 meters in length, 1.7 meters in width, and 2.9 meters in height. It can be installed at locations where the sidewalk width is 4 meters or more.

The initial installation sites include two shelters in front of Garak Mall on Songpa-daero, and one shelter each in front of the Jamsil 2-dong Community Center on Olympic-ro and in front of the West Gate 1 of Olympic Park, totaling four shelters.

The safety shelter installation project was promoted through a public-private partnership. All costs related to operation, maintenance, and management are borne by the business operator (Leaderscom Korea), while the district provides administrative support for management and uses the shelter's advertising space to share district news and public service announcements.

Additionally, the newly created Songpa-gu CI will be attached to the front and back of the shelters to actively promote the Songpa-gu CI to residents.

Installation work will take place from July 15 to 16, and based on residents' responses, expansion of installations will be considered.

Park Seong-su, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, "It is very meaningful to improve the pedestrian environment for residents through a new business model in cooperation with private companies," adding, "We will continue to prioritize the safety of residents and actively promote various projects to make Songpa a better city to live in."
