Driving License Cancellation Level Based on Alcohol Test Results
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Lim Juhyung] On a national highway in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province, a drunk driving vehicle struck marathon participants, resulting in three deaths.
The Icheon Police Station in Gyeonggi announced on the 9th that around 3:30 a.m., a vehicle hit three marathon participants, including A (60), from behind on a two-lane national highway in Sindun-myeon, Icheon City, Gyeonggi Province.
As a result of the accident, the three marathon participants, including Mr. A, sustained severe injuries all over their bodies and all died while being transported to a nearby hospital.
When the police conducted a breathalyzer test on the driver, it was confirmed that the blood alcohol concentration exceeded the license cancellation level (0.08%).
In the police investigation, the driver stated, "I did not see Mr. A and the others."
The police plan to investigate the detailed circumstances of the incident.
Meanwhile, the three deceased, including Mr. A, were identified as participants in the "2020 Korea Transverse 537km Ultra Marathon," running from Taejongdae in Busan to Imjingak in Gyeonggi Province.
