According to Jeollanam-do on the 8th, Mr. A, the head of Geumjeong-myeon, who tested positive in the initial COVID-19 test and underwent a second test at the Jeonnam Health and Environment Research Institute, again showed a positive result and was confirmed infected.
Mr. A attended the night class at Gwangju Gosi Academy on the 1st and 2nd.
On the 3rd, he visited his workplace at Geumjeong-myeon Office, a restaurant, and after work, went to his in-laws' residence in Geumjeong-myeon before returning home. On the 4th, he visited a golf course in Geumjeong-myeon, a nearby restaurant, a coffee shop, and his in-laws' house.
It was confirmed that some employees from Jeonnam Provincial Office accompanied him to the golf course, leading to all employees in three departments of the provincial office being placed under self-quarantine.
On the 5th, he visited a bathhouse in Yeongam-eup, and on the 6th, he went to work, had lunch at a nearby restaurant, and then returned home.
His cohabiting family members are undergoing testing, and all facilities visited by Mr. A have been disinfected.
Currently, the Jeonnam Rapid Response Team and Yeongam-gun Epidemiological Investigation Team are conducting an in-depth epidemiological investigation.
Meanwhile, as this is the first time a public official in the region has been confirmed positive for COVID-19, Jeonnam Governor Kim Young-rok issued an emergency statement saying, “With the occurrence of a confirmed case among public officials, we will take measures to refrain from gatherings and after-work activities of public officials not only in the province but also in cities and counties.”
He added, “As local infections are spreading rapidly in Gwangju and Jeonnam, which share the same living area, strict measures are necessary. Please refrain from visiting multi-use facilities, gatherings, dinners, and other outside activities, and wear masks indoors.”
