SK Chairman Chey Tae-won: "We Must Become Intellectuals Who Return Accumulated Knowledge to Society" On the afternoon of the 7th, at the Korea Foundation for Advanced Studies located in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won is delivering congratulations and words of encouragement to the selected scholarship students at the "Overseas Study Scholarship Certificate Award Ceremony."

[Asia Economy Reporter Park So-yeon] "During your studies abroad, do not just accumulate knowledge, but grow into intellectuals who give back to society. The more you use it, the more it does not disappear but spreads throughout society?that is true intellect."

On the afternoon of the 7th, SK Chairman Chey Tae-won held an event at the Korea Foundation for Advanced Studies in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, to encourage scholarship students departing for overseas studies supported by the foundation, urging them to grow into talents who share their achievements with society.

Chairman Chey, who is also the chairman of the foundation, said, "The late Chey Jong-hyun, the founding chairman of SK and the founder of this foundation, once said that the reason for selecting scholarship students is 'to cultivate intellect for society.' I hope you will look far into the future and grow into intellectuals who contribute to making our society happier."

Chairman Chey especially noted, "This year, we are all experiencing a pandemic for the first time," and reminded the scholarship students to take care of their health. He also added, "Please strive to develop your capabilities to solve challenges faced in all fields such as politics, economy, and society, and to lead change."

The event was attended by 33 scholarship students as well as foundation officials including Park In-guk, Secretary General of the Korea Foundation for Advanced Studies. The scholarship students selected this year will pursue doctoral programs at prestigious overseas universities such as Harvard, Stanford, Yale, Chicago, and MIT. Chairman Chey has a special affection for talent development and has never missed attending events such as the annual ‘Dialogue with SK New Employees’ and the foundation’s scholarship student encouragement luncheon.

The Korea Foundation for Advanced Studies was established in 1974 by Chairman Chey’s late father, the late Chey Jong-hyun, with the belief of "planting trees looking ten years ahead and nurturing talents looking a hundred years ahead." Since then, the foundation has supported over 3,500 scholarship students domestically over the past 45 years and has produced about 780 doctoral graduates from prestigious overseas universities.
