Bereaved Families Deliver 10 Million Won to Jeonbuk Athletics Federation
Plan to Provide 'Baek Jeongseon Scholarship' Annually
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Geon-ju] The family of the late track and field teacher Baek Jeong-seon, who passed away in an unfortunate accident, has donated a scholarship fund to be used for the development of track and field in Jeonbuk, touching many hearts.
On the 7th, according to the Jeonbuk Sports Council and the Jeonbuk Track and Field Federation, the family of the late teacher Baek Jeong-seon donated 10 million won to the Jeonbuk Track and Field Federation.
The deceased served as a track and field coach while working at elementary schools in the province for over 30 years, contributing to the development of track and field in Jeonbuk.
In particular, it is reported that he cared for his athletes like his own children, even personally washing their sportswear with his gentle personality.
However, last June, he was hit by a drunk driver on his way home from work, underwent three brain surgeries, but ultimately could not recover and passed away.
After holding the first anniversary memorial service, the family decided to donate a scholarship to honor the late teacher’s spirit of love for track and field during his lifetime.
The Jeonbuk Track and Field Federation plans to establish the ‘Baek Jeong-seon Scholarship’ at the annual Track and Field Night event and provide it to athletes in financial need.
The family said, “This is to honor the late teacher’s spirit, who thought of the athletes as family and gave them unconditional love,” adding, “We hope it will be of some help to the athletes.”
