[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Choi Hyun-joo] Changwon City in Gyeongnam announced on the 7th that Mayor Heo Seong-mu met with seven members of the National Assembly, including Min Hong-chul of the Democratic Party of Korea, at the National Assembly and requested their participation in the passage of the full revision of the Local Autonomy Act within this year.


Mayor Heo's visit followed a meeting between the mayors of four major cities related to the realization of special city status and local district lawmakers, where he met with Min Hong-chul (Gimhae City Gap) and Lee Sang-heon (Ulsan Buk-gu) to request interest and support for regional issues.


First, Mayor Heo met with Min Hong-chul, recently appointed as the Chair of the Defense Committee, to request the passage of the bill establishing the Defense Industry Promotion Agency and the expansion of public facilities for residents on the site of the relocated Korea Maritime Corporation. He also met with Seo Sam-seok and Choi In-ho, members of the Agriculture, Food, Rural Affairs, Oceans and Fisheries Committee, to request national funding support for the construction of the Masan Port access road.


Additionally, he met with Lee Sang-heon, a member of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee, to propose attracting the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Changwon branch, and with Lee Yong-seon and Jeong Tae-ho, members of the Industry and Energy Committee, to request the designation of an energy industry convergence complex as a hub cluster for energy industry technological innovation.


Mayor Heo Seong-mu of Changwon said, “The Changwon special city, which will be the new framework and cornerstone to be handed down to future generations in 10 years, will definitely be realized within this year,” and added, “I will mobilize all human networks to solve regional development issues and work hard to meet even one more person.”
