Kang Ki-yoon, Future United Party Lawmaker, Begins Full Legislative Activities as Secretary of the National Assembly Health and Welfare Committee

Evaluation of Forward Deployment Amid Stabilization of COVID-19 Situation and Failures of Current Government's Welfare Policies

Kang Ki-yoon, Future United Party Lawmaker, Begins Full Legislative Activities as Secretary of the National Assembly Health and Welfare Committee Assemblyman Kang Ki-yoon

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Choi Hyun-joo] Kang Ki-yoon, a member of the Future United Party (Changwon Seongsan), officially began his legislative activities on the 7th by taking the position of floor leader of the 21st National Assembly's first half Health and Welfare Committee.

The floor leader position is known as a role in the National Assembly's standing committee where one represents their political party to discuss and coordinate various committee tasks such as stabilizing the submission of bills and deciding the legislative schedule.

Kang's appointment as floor leader is being evaluated as a strategic deployment to stabilize the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) situation and to correct the current government's welfare policy failures.

The National Assembly Health and Welfare Committee directly oversees organizations under the Ministry of Health and Welfare, including the Ministry of Health and Welfare itself, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, and the National Pension Service.

The committee can actively handle policies related to disease control directly responding to the COVID-19 crisis, advanced health sectors such as bio and new medicines, welfare for marginalized groups including children, the elderly, and the disabled, as well as practical fields like hospitals.

Representative Kang said, “I will devote all my efforts to resolving the COVID-19 crisis that the public is worried about and inconvenienced by,” adding, “The scope of a National Assembly member's legislative activities is not limited to a specific standing committee, so I plan to continuously address policies related to the Industry and Energy Committee and the Public Administration and Security Committee, which have expertise and are related to regional issues.”
