[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] Audi Volkswagen Korea announced on the 7th that it will expand the Future Mobility education project 'Tumo Road School' for middle schools under the free semester system nationwide. Considering COVID-19 and other factors, the class format will be diversified into an integrated type combining online or both online and offline classes.


Tumo Road School is a problem-solving convergence education program that uses automobiles to learn and implement future society technologies with the theme of future mobility. Since its launch last year, a total of 2,102 students have participated. In the first half of this year, due to COVID-19, the class format was changed from the existing offline method to online, and the class content was reorganized to suit online learning. Currently, 432 students from 14 schools are participating in the online Tumo Road School.


The second semester Tumo Road School for 2020, which began recruiting on the 2nd of this month, will expand its scale nationwide, and students can choose between an integrated type combining online and offline classes or online classes only. Students who wish to participate in Tumo Road School can download and fill out the application form from the education donation website operated by the Ministry of Education and the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity, then submit it. After receiving applications nationwide, 25 schools will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis to conduct second semester classes.


Rene Koneveag, Group CEO of Audi Volkswagen Korea, said, "Due to the continued positive feedback from students, parents, and teachers regarding the learning effects and interesting class content of Tumo Road School, we have decided to expand the program, which started in Seoul, nationwide." He added, "We will continue to provide various support so that more students can develop computational thinking and problem-solving skills through Tumo Road School and grow into core talents who will lead the Fourth Industrial Revolution."


The second semester Tumo Road School will be conducted in 7 or 14 sessions depending on each school's academic schedule and circumstances. The classes consist of ▲ understanding automobiles ▲ understanding the concept of future mobility and implementing future car and mobility apps through coding ▲ understanding the automobile industry and future jobs. The core is coding classes, where students can directly implement autonomous driving functions such as autonomous parking, lane keeping, and collision avoidance by using coding robot cars while learning about future mobility. Additionally, there will be time to develop mobile applications on the theme of mobility services.
