[Asia Economy Reporter Wondara] Former Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Boo-kyum will visit Gwangju on the 9th ahead of his declaration to run for party leader.
On the morning of the 7th, Kim posted on his Facebook, "Today, I, Kim Boo-kyum, am heading to Gwangju once again. Although I have frequently visited Gwangju, today is a different day," and said, "I am preparing to run for the Democratic Party leadership election. I want to make my first greeting in Gwangju."
He continued, "As a university student from Daegu, I encountered the '1980 Gwangju' and have walked the path of the democratization movement. The future I will walk will ultimately be together with Gwangju."
Kim also introduced his connections with Gwangju.
He said, "My father, a retired Air Force lieutenant colonel, used to visit Gwangju, his duty station during my childhood, every vacation," adding, "In May 1980, to expose the military regime's atrocities, I printed and distributed leaflets in the hill neighborhoods of Geumho-dong and Oksu-dong in Seoul. My father suffered untold hardships because of me."
