Public Complex Building in Sindang-dong Scheduled for Completion in September: Name Contest Open Until the 17th

Naming Contest for the Public Complex Building in Sindang-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jung-gu, Seoul (Mayor Seoyangho) is currently in the final stages of construction for the Sindang-dong Public Complex Building (tentative name), aiming for completion in September this year, and is accepting name suggestions until the 17th.

The Sindang-dong Public Complex Building, to be constructed on the site of the former Sindang-dong Community Center (around 300-6 Sindang-dong), will have a total floor area of 6,680.7㎡ (approximately 2,021 pyeong) and consist of 5 basement levels and 7 above-ground floors.

The basement will include 77 public parking spaces to alleviate chronic parking problems in the nearby area. The first floor will house a library and a book caf?, creating an open space accessible to all local residents. The second floor will be a place where children can freely play, featuring a kids center and a shared childcare space. The third floor will accommodate the Sindang-dong Community Center, while the fourth floor will be dedicated to youth spaces such as a career experience center. Floors five through seven will include a multi-purpose auditorium with 283 seats, meeting rooms, and a rooftop rest area.

The district office plans to collect residents’ opinions and hold a naming contest for the Sindang-dong Public Complex Building, designed for residents of all ages from children to adults, hoping it will become a key living hub for the community.

Anyone residing in the area can participate in this contest, with a limit of two submissions per person. The name must include the word "Sindang" and be within 10 characters. Entries can be submitted by email (jw123@junggu.seoul.kr) or by visiting the local community center by the 17th.

The application form can be downloaded from the Jung-gu Office website, and submissions can also be made directly through the website.

Jung-gu will select the official name through a preference survey and a selection committee. The judging will focus on originality, popularity, and symbolism, aiming to choose a name that distinctively reflects the local characteristics and the nature of the building while remaining friendly. The winning entry will be announced in August, with the grand prize winner receiving a cultural gift certificate worth 300,000 KRW and three runners-up each receiving certificates worth 100,000 KRW.

Mayor Seoyangho of Jung-gu stated, "The Sindang-dong Public Complex Building is a project carefully planned by the district to meet residents’ hopes, allowing all generations from children to seniors to enjoy convenient living benefits nearby. We hope residents will freely share their witty and diverse ideas to give it a fitting name. Going forward, we will continue to focus on expanding living SOC by rearranging public facilities so that Jung-gu residents can enjoy all public service benefits within a 10-minute walk."
