Strengthening of Clean Sunchang COVID-19 Prevention Measures

“Rising Concerns Over Near-Distance Influx of Confirmed Cases from Gwangju”

Strengthening of Clean Sunchang COVID-19 Prevention Measures

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Geon-ju] On the 6th, Sunchang-gun, Jeonbuk Province, held an emergency COVID-19 countermeasure meeting attended by about 40 senior officials in the county office video conference room.

According to the county, the meeting was held to strengthen quarantine measures amid concerns about the influx of COVID-19 cases into the region as the spread of confirmed cases triggered recently in Gwangju Metropolitan City has extended to Jeonnam.

The county stated that since it is located only 30 minutes away from Gwangju, concerns are rising that the virus may be entering from the Gwangju and Jeonnam areas.

At the meeting, County Governor Hwang Suk-ju urged people to refrain from visiting areas with confirmed cases such as Gwangju and Jeonnam, and to strengthen quarantine measures at major tourist sites and multi-use facilities where gatherings occur.

He also emphasized refraining from events that could lead to COVID-19 influx, such as the Residents' Day events with increasing visitors from other regions and local sports events.

Governor Hwang further ordered active guidance and inspections to ensure strict compliance with quarantine guidelines such as temperature checks, mask-wearing, and visitor records at meeting rooms, public transportation facilities, senior centers, and multi-use facilities.

In particular, he appealed to residents to practice thorough social distancing, wear masks, and avoid physical contact during religious events held every weekend at churches and temples.

The county plans to promote stricter compliance with quarantine guidelines among residents, organizations, and multi-use facility managers, and will take strong administrative actions such as administrative orders if these are violated.

Governor Hwang Suk-ju said, "As the risk of COVID-19 occurrence is higher than ever due to outbreaks in nearby areas such as Gwangju and Jeonnam, we ask residents to refrain from visiting affected areas."

Meanwhile, Sunchang-gun reported that as the spread of COVID-19 in neighboring areas worsened, it suspended operations of the Chaegyesan Suspension Bridge on the 4th, and that since the outbreak of COVID-19, no confirmed cases have occurred, maintaining its status as a clean area.
