[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Professors at Chosun University have delivered scholarships collected through small contributions to their students who are going through difficult times due to COVID-19.
According to Chosun University on the 5th, this scholarship fund was raised through a voluntary fundraising campaign led by the Faculty Council to support enrolled students affected by the COVID-19 crisis.
The scholarship fund raised so far amounts to 140.7 million KRW, and the fundraising campaign is ongoing.
Previously, Chosun University provided 200 million KRW in Cheongsong Scholarships to 400 students facing difficulties due to the COVID-19 situation.
This "Love for Students" scholarship re-evaluated applicants who were not selected for the Cheongsong Scholarship and selected recipients accordingly.
The selection criteria and target for this scholarship are the same as those for the Cheongsong Scholarship: ▲ enrolled students experiencing business closure, bankruptcy, unemployment, or financial hardship due to COVID-19 (Cheongsong Type 1) ▲ enrolled students from other regions who bear housing costs such as monthly rent or dormitory fees to attend school (Cheongsong Type 2). A total of 137 students were selected.
With the delivery of this "Love for Students" scholarship, most applicants who applied for the Cheongsong Scholarship have received scholarship benefits.
In particular, to focus on alleviating housing cost burdens caused by the COVID-19 crisis, 52 students were selected for financial hardship support (Cheongsong Type 1) and 85 students for housing support (Cheongsong Type 2). The scholarship amount is 500,000 KRW each.
Chosun University plans to select an additional 280 scholarship recipients for the "COVID-19 Overcome Love for Students Scholarship."
Meanwhile, the scholarship award ceremony was attended by Chosun University President Min Youngdon, Faculty Council Chair Professor Ko Youngyeop and other professors, Student Council President Kim Junyeon, and scholarship recipients.
Kim (3rd year), a student from the College of Business Administration who was selected as a scholarship recipient, said, “With university life almost at a standstill, the housing costs were burdensome, but this has been a great help in my daily life. I am grateful for the professors’ care and sincerity in not ignoring students’ difficulties.”
Faculty Council Chair Professor Ko Youngyeop stated, “We fully empathize with the inconveniences and difficulties students face during this national crisis, and we plan to expand the scholarship so that more students can benefit in the future.”
President Min Youngdon said, “I thank all the professors who participated in the fundraising, and I hope all members of Chosun University unite to wisely overcome COVID-19.”
