[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jin-young] The Future United Party's Special Committee on Foreign Affairs and Security criticized the personnel appointments in the foreign affairs and security line announced by the Blue House on the 3rd as "North Korea-biased appointments lacking any sense of balance."
Park Jin, the chairman of the special committee, said at the committee meeting held at the National Assembly in the afternoon, "This is nothing less than a bombshell declaration to fully pursue a submissive appeasement policy with an even more extreme North Korea stance than now."
Park targeted Park Ji-won, a Minsheng Party lawmaker nominated as the head of the National Intelligence Service, and Seo Hun, the current NIS director nominated as the Blue House security chief, saying, "A person involved in illegal remittances to North Korea is becoming the head of South Korea's intelligence agency, and the person who already failed in leading the inter-Korean summits has become the control tower of foreign affairs and security policy."
Regarding Lee In-young, a Democratic Party lawmaker nominated as the Minister of Unification, he said, "If a person with a biased view toward North Korea becomes responsible for unification policy, the already directionless and unbalanced foreign affairs and security policy will inevitably derail in the wrong direction of appeasing North Korea."
He added, "This appointment reveals the Moon Jae-in administration's stubbornness to focus solely on North Korea issues despite the faltering international cooperation with the U.S. alliance, Japan, China, and others, aiming to forcefully pull off a third U.S.-North Korea summit as a show before the U.S. presidential election."
He further emphasized, "It is questionable whether the North Korea-appeasing foreign affairs and security line can properly protect national interests or strategically respond to complex foreign affairs and security issues. The public will not be fooled by a showy surprise U.S.-North Korea summit. We clearly warn that rushed diplomatic gambling under time pressure can degrade national dignity and harm national interests."
