Jeollanam-do Elevates to 'Social Distancing Level 2' Starting from the 6th (Update)

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunwoo Lee] Jeollanam-do, where the community spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) continues, has decided to raise the quarantine level from 'Everyday Social Distancing' to 'Social Distancing Level 2'.

Jeonnam Governor Kim Young-rok stated in a non-face-to-face briefing on the 5th, "From the 6th, we will raise the quarantine level to Social Distancing Level 2 and implement strong quarantine measures," adding, "As local infections continue in multi-use facilities such as temples, churches, hospitals, nursing facilities, and door-to-door sales venues, it is a critical situation where it is no longer possible to protect clean Jeonnam with just 'Everyday Social Distancing'."

The main quarantine measures through raising to Social Distancing Level 2 include a complete ban on gatherings and events of 50 or more people indoors and 100 or more people outdoors. Wearing masks is also mandatory when using public transportation or visiting restaurants and cafes. Administrative measures mandating mask-wearing on public transportation and in food service establishments throughout the province are already in effect. Visits by outsiders to elderly nursing hospitals and elderly care facilities are also prohibited. These facilities have been implementing semi-cohort isolation restricting visits and the entry of residents and workers since the 3rd of this month.

Operations of multi-use facilities run by public institutions will also be completely suspended. Regarding whether kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high school students will attend school, a decision will be made soon in consultation with the Ministry of Education and the provincial Office of Education. Governor Kim urged, "The most important quarantine rule to prevent COVID-19 is to make mask-wearing a daily habit. Even though it is difficult due to the hot weather, please wear a mask anytime and anywhere," and added, "As this is a critical moment that determines the success or failure of blocking community infections, please recognize the crisis situation and actively and voluntarily comply with the quarantine rules."
