[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Hyesoo] On the afternoon of the 4th, Baek Jong-won conducted a live broadcast with cooking beginners using ramen as the main ingredient on MBC's "Baek Father: Don't Stop Cooking!" (hereafter "Baek Father").

As previewed in the previous episode, Baek Jong-won shared a recipe using ramen with the cooking beginners. Before starting, Baek Jong-won instructed the beginners to cook ramen the way they usually do. At that moment, the "Yor-sin" (a combination of "Yorini" meaning cooking beginner + "Eosin" meaning elder) insisted that Cheongyang chili peppers must be added, and immediately went to the field to pick some, bringing laughter to the studio.

Meanwhile, Yang Se-hyung also tried cooking ramen himself. Contrary to initial concerns about water measurement, Baek Jong-won praised Yang Se-hyung’s ramen, saying "You cooked it well," and even drank the broth, satisfying Yang Se-hyung.

Baek Jong-won explained that as long as the water amount is right, cooking ramen is easy. He said that using three paper cups or one small bottle of mineral water is sufficient. He also shared a tip that folding the ramen package three times, cutting it, and pouring water into it yields the same amount of water.

He then advised to add the soup base before the water boils, put the ramen noodles in once the water is boiling, and when the noodles start to separate, boil for exactly one more minute. After cooking, transfer the noodles to a bowl first, add an egg to the broth, wait for 10 seconds, and then pour it over the noodles to complete the dish.

After completing the basic ramen, Baek Jong-won introduced a slightly advanced step: poached egg ramen. Tristan, participating from California, challenged the poached egg ramen using quail eggs instead of large eggs, prompting Baek Jong-won to say, "Wait a moment."

The poached egg ramen Baek Jong-won suggested involved adding the egg together with the noodles. The egg had to be cracked into a bowl first and then carefully added. Boiling the egg with the noodles resulted in a half-cooked ramen with a slightly undercooked yolk.

Meanwhile, among the Heung sisters participating from Pyeongtaek, the younger sister failed to cook proper ramen because she cut the ramen package differently from Baek Jong-won and mismeasured the water. Seeing this, Yang Se-hyung pointed out that Baek Jong-won had demonstrated cutting the package vertically, not horizontally. Nora-jo, who was nearby, agreed with Yang Se-hyung’s comment.

Then Baek Jong-won said, "Se-hyung is right. I won’t argue. Fold it horizontally," correcting himself.

After finishing the basic ramen, Baek Jong-won also made a super simple rabokki (spicy rice cake and ramen stir-fry). He used half the prepared water, 2/3 of the ramen soup base, gochujang (Korean chili paste), and a spoonful of sugar to quickly complete the rabokki. Baek Jong-won added, "If you want to add rice cakes or fish cakes, add more ramen soup base." Yang Se-hyung and Nora-jo, who tasted Baek Jong-won’s rabokki, did not hold back their praise.

Finally, Baek Jong-won made a unique ramen by draining the noodles as he did initially, then adding two eggs while stirring, and adding a spoonful of sesame oil. At this moment, the Yor-sin added about half a bottle of sesame oil, causing chaos in the studio.

Yang Se-hyung admired Baek Jong-won’s egg sesame oil ramen, saying, "This is ramen from a snack bar."

Baek Jong-won announced that next week’s ingredient will be kimchi, advising, "If possible, prepare aged kimchi and just some sesame oil or green onions. If you have ham, prepare that too. We will make kimchi fried rice."

MBC’s cooking program "Baek Father" airs every Saturday at 5 PM.
