[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Je-hoon] Domestic air travel is gaining attention during the summer vacation season due to the impact of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Accordingly, various promotions are being conducted by airlines and airports to encourage domestic air travel.
According to the industry on the 4th, the Korea Airports Corporation is holding various events related to domestic air travel until next month in celebration of the '2020 Special Travel Week (July 1st to 19th)'.
First, until the end of this month, the 'Safe Air Travel Campaign' and 'Next Vacation' events are underway. This event selects excellent stories via radio broadcasts and provides domestic air travel vouchers worth approximately 1 million KRW.
Additionally, the 'Ride! Snap! Yangyang Airport Mobile Stamp Tour' event is also being held. This event offers international and domestic flight tickets through a lottery to those who use the newly opened Yangyang Airport routes from Gimpo, Gimhae, and Gwangju airports and collect mobile stamps at the airport. Airlines that have opened or are preparing routes from Gimpo, Gimhae, and Gwangju to Yangyang include T'way Air, Fly Gangwon, and Jeju Air.
The 'Jeju Da(Many) Dream' promotion for Jeju route passengers continues as well. Until the 24th, passengers using Jeju routes from regional airports on weekdays can receive special gift exchange coupons such as discount vouchers for Jeju Airport duty-free shops and commercial facilities provided through the Korea Airports Corporation's Kakao Channel, hand sanitizers, and Jeju specialty products.
Furthermore, starting in August, the corporation will continue the 'Half-Price Day by Airplane' event in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, offering half-price air tickets and air package tour products for workers.
Detailed information about these promotions can be found on the Korea Airports Corporation website, official blog, and social network service (SNS) accounts. Son Chang-wan, president of Korea Airports Corporation, said, "In celebration of Travel Week and the vacation season, we are thoroughly preparing so that citizens who are tired due to COVID-19 and have postponed travel can safely embark on domestic air travel," adding, "Please minimize face-to-face interactions through mobile boarding passes and self check-in, and be sure to wear a mask when using the airport."
