Conditional Approval by Seoul Industrial Complex Planning Committee on the 2nd... Industrial Complex Plan Approval Notice, Land Compensation, Infrastructure Construction, and Company Attraction to Proceed Sequentially... Synergy Expected with High-Tech Business Complex and Godeok Biz Valley through Attraction of Over 200 Engineering Companies
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] A large-scale engineering complex is set to be established on a 78,144㎡ site around 404 Sangil-dong, Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon), leading the rise of Seoul's eastern economic hub.
On the 2nd, the Seoul Industrial Complex Planning Deliberation Committee conditionally approved the Gangdong General Industrial Complex Plan. As a result, the last project among Gangdong-gu's three key initiatives, the 'Engineering Complex' development project, has entered its full-scale phase.
After supplementing the conditions set by the Seoul Industrial Complex Planning Deliberation Committee, once the designated authority, Gangdong-gu Office, officially approves and announces the industrial complex plan, the project implementer, Seoul Housing and Communities Corporation, will begin land compensation procedures in the second half of 2020, followed by infrastructure construction and land sales, aiming for completion in 2023.
The Engineering Complex development project is a long-cherished wish of Gangdong residents and one of the district's top priority projects. It is expected to bring new changes as a 'people-centered self-sufficient industrial complex' based on the engineering industry, which can create high value-added jobs.
Once the industrial complex is completed, the district plans to prepare for designation as an engineering promotion facility by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. Upon designation, it will be reborn as a specialized engineering industrial complex through financial and equipment support.
Led by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and in collaboration with related organizations such as the Engineering Mutual Aid Association, Korea Engineering Association, Engineering Design Support Center, and the Creative Engineering Center of the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, a systematic and concrete infrastructure will be established to cultivate global engineering professionals and lead the engineering industry.
Additionally, in cooperation with Seoul City and SH Corporation, public support facilities such as a production-type startup incubation center, public knowledge industry center, and startup support platform (Dojeon-suk) will be attracted within the complex to revitalize the industrial complex.
With the establishment of the Engineering Complex, a solid industrial belt will be completed along with the nearby advanced business complex and Godeok Biz Valley, expected to generate an economic ripple effect exceeding 20 trillion won and create employment for over 110,000 people.
Lee Jeong-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, stated, “We will actively collaborate with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Seoul City, and Seoul Housing and Communities Corporation to create a digital engineering industrial complex integrating big data and artificial intelligence technologies.” He expressed his ambition, saying, “Along with the development of the engineering industry, we will vigorously advance as an eco-friendly smart self-sufficient city leading the Fourth Industrial Revolution.”
