[Changwon (Gyeongnam) = Kim Hyunjun, Golf Specialist Reporter] "Marching toward a victory after 7 years."
'Players' Chairman' Hong Sunsang (39, Danu) is leading for the second day in a row. On the 3rd, at Aramir Golf Course in Changwon City, Gyeongnam (Par 72, 7,245 yards), the second day of the 2020 season opening event of the Korea Professional Golfers' Association (KPGA) Korean Tour, Woosung General Construction Aramir CC Busan Gyeongnam Open (total prize money 500 million KRW), he added 6 under par to take a 3-stroke lead (16 under par, 128 strokes). 'Angler Swing' Choi Hoseong (47) and Kim Geonha (28) are tied for second place (13 under par, 131 strokes).
Hong Sunsang swept up 6 birdies. Starting at the 10th hole (par 4), he opened the scoring early with a birdie at the 13th hole (par 4), followed by stepping-stone birdies at the 16th and 18th holes, and then added 3 more birdies on the back nine at the 2nd, 5th, and 9th holes. His 'piercing iron shots,' missing the green only twice each day for two consecutive days, stood out. This is a great opportunity for him to reach his 6th career win after a long 7 years since the 2013 Solarisdo Pine Beach Open. He vowed, "I will do my best until the very end."
Choi Hoseong is also aiming for his first Korean Tour win in 9 years since the 2011 Lake Hills Open. He has been active between Japan and Korea since 2012, securing 3 wins on the Japan Golf Tour Organization (JGTO), including the 2013 Indonesia PGA Championship in March, the 2018 Casio World Open in November, and last year's Heiwa PGM Championship. This time, his wife is serving as his caddie, creating off-course buzz. He commented, "I handle the course strategy myself, but just having my wife with me gives me great confidence."
Kim Geonha joined the tie for second place with a daily best 9 under par, and last year's KEB Hana Bank Invitational champion Seo Yoseop (24) is following in joint 5th place (11 under par, 133 strokes). 'Player of the Year' Moon Kyungjun (37) and 'Money List Leader' Lee Sumin (27) both shot 6 under par to climb to joint 17th place (8 under par, 136 strokes) and joint 31st place (7 under par, 137 strokes), respectively. Defending champion Lee Jaekyung (21, CJ O Shopping) is still facing a thorny path in defending his title, sitting at joint 58th place (5 under par, 139 strokes).
