Songpa-gu Supports Out-of-School Youth with Busking Performances and More

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) is stepping up to support cultural and artistic activities for marginalized youth, including out-of-school adolescents.

The district announced on the 3rd that it was finally selected for the "2020 Seoul City-led Cultural and Artistic Support Project for Out-of-School and Marginalized Youth."

Accordingly, the district secured a project budget of 35 million KRW to support various programs ranging from cultural arts to career experience.

The two selected programs are ▲‘Cheonggaeguri Yulangdan’ ▲‘The Digado Hamkkeganeun Sesang’.

They plan to conduct busking performances through activities such as exploring local cultural spaces, participating in community cultural activities, as well as instrument and vocal lessons, and ensemble practice.

The programs are run by the nonprofit organizations Together Smiling Village Community Jeulgeowoon-ga and Hanbit Youth Alternative Center, which support the independence and protection of out-of-school youth.

The district plans to help marginalized youth express their talents and abilities through cultural and artistic activities, enabling them to grow healthily without losing their dreams.

In addition, the district operates the alternative education institution 'Handeul' for out-of-school youth, providing learning support. It targets out-of-school youth aged 14 to 19 and offers systematic education from basic subjects such as reading and writing to elective courses like drums and art design, as well as special activities and individualized learning.

Mayor Park Seong-su said, “The educational goal of Songpa-gu is to help youth develop various talents without being marginalized,” adding, “We will continue to actively support customized educational services so that young people can nurture their future in Songpa without losing their dreams and hopes.”
