[Asia Economy Reporter Park Cheol-eung] The Justice Party has expressed its position that President Moon Jae-in's push for strengthening the comprehensive real estate tax is "a natural outcome and is welcomed."
Kim Jong-chul, senior spokesperson for the Justice Party, said in a briefing on the 2nd, "Although it is late, it is a natural result as a measure against the real estate price surge, and the Justice Party, whose party stance is to strengthen property taxes, expresses its welcome."
He continued, "As our party leader Shim Sang-jung stated this morning, the level of strengthening property taxes should at least be at the level when the comprehensive real estate tax was introduced during the Roh Moo-hyun administration. That is the way to curb the current surge in real estate prices and, furthermore, to alleviate inequality through enhancing tax fairness."
Spokesperson Kim said, "What remains now is the responsible attitude of the Democratic Party of Korea," adding, "In the last general election, Lee Nak-yeon, the election committee chairman, and Lee In-young, the floor leader, showed a reserved stance toward strengthening the comprehensive real estate tax by mentioning easing the tax for one household one house. Now that the president has expressed his determination to control housing prices by strengthening the comprehensive real estate tax, the ruling Democratic Party should also take responsible action."
