Volkswagen Tiguan Surpasses 50,000 Units Sold in Korea... First Imported SUV to Achieve This Milestone

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] Volkswagen Korea's sports utility vehicle (SUV) Tiguan sold more than 1,200 units in June.

As a result, Volkswagen Tiguan surpassed 50,000 cumulative sales in Korea 12 years after its domestic debut in July 2008. Among imported SUV models, Volkswagen Tiguan is the only model to exceed 50,000 cumulative sales in Korea.

The popularity of the Tiguan can be attributed to its excellent product quality and word-of-mouth effects from existing customers' recommendations. The Tiguan is evaluated as a model that combines Volkswagen's unique solid driving performance with safety and economy. In particular, it has high satisfaction in terms of total cost of ownership (TCO), which takes into account various costs incurred during operation after purchase.

Additionally, expanding the lineup to consider diverse needs has also contributed to Tiguan's popularity.

While the first-generation Tiguan was launched as a single 5-seater all-wheel-drive model, the second-generation Tiguan added a front-wheel-drive model for customers who mainly drive in urban areas and a 7-seater Tiguan Allspace targeting customers who enjoy outdoor activities such as camping.

Stefan Krapp, Head of Volkswagen Division at Audi Volkswagen Korea, said, "The fact that Tiguan is the only SUV to exceed 50,000 cumulative sales in the highly competitive Korean imported car market shows that the product competitiveness and differentiated value have been recognized by customers. Through Tiguan, which has built a strong and broad lineup from front-wheel-drive models to all-wheel-drive models and 7-seater models, we will further solidify our position in the domestic market."

Meanwhile, Volkswagen Korea is conducting various promotions for customers purchasing the 2020 Tiguan throughout July. Depending on the trim, customers can receive up to a 10% discount when using Volkswagen Financial Services and up to an 8% discount for cash purchases. Additionally, up to 2 million KRW is supported when using the trade-in program for returning used vehicles.

Various benefits that can reduce total ownership costs are also provided. The Powertrain Advanced Warranty offers an extended warranty of 5 years or 150,000 km (whichever comes first) for key vehicle drivetrain components such as the engine and transmission. The 'Welcome Service for New Customers,' which includes one vehicle inspection and fluid parts (top-up) service within 6 months from the start date of the new car warranty, and a 30% discount on the first official service, as well as a black box installation service, are provided to customers who purchase any model in the Tiguan lineup.
