Joo Ho-young: "Democratic Party Sneaked 370 Billion Won for Their District Budgets in COVID-19 Supplementary Budget"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Kim Jong-in, Emergency Committee Chairman of the Future United Party, requested President Moon Jae-in to once again express his stance, stating that despite President Moon's determination to 'control housing prices,' real estate prices are soaring.
At the Future United Party Emergency Committee meeting held at the National Assembly main building on the 2nd, Chairman Kim said, "Last November, President Moon confidently stated that he would stabilize real estate, but even after seven months, real estate prices have not yet stabilized."
He added, "Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Kim Hyun-mi announced regulations and said that raising property tax and holding tax would suppress real estate speculation, but despite that, real estate prices have not declined," and criticized, "It has been proven that habitual tax increases and regulations to curb real estate speculation do not work even after decades."
Chairman Kim said, "Due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), too much money has been released, and ordinary people psychologically believe that the value of money will decrease after this situation passes, which also influenced the rise in real estate prices," and requested, "The government should fundamentally consider what to do to control real estate prices and how to supplement economic policies."
He also raised criticism against Minister of Justice Choo Mi-ae. He said, "The recent situation between the Minister of Justice and the Prosecutor General is greatly disappointing to the public," and added, "Ordinary citizens are already frustrated due to economic difficulties, so President Moon should bring this issue to a swift conclusion."
Regarding the hasty review of the third supplementary budget (추경), he said, "The National Assembly, which handles taxpayers' money, is rushing through a supplementary budget of 35 trillion won in just a few days without proper deliberation, simply because the president ordered it to be done by the 3rd of this month," and criticized, "One cannot help but question whether this behavior of the National Assembly proves or undermines democracy in the Republic of Korea."
Floor Leader Joo Ho-young also criticized, saying, "The Democratic Party's tyranny, led by numbers, is severe. They pass a 35 trillion won supplementary budget three times a year in less than two hours," and added, "Even the Justice Party, which participated in the review, called it 'no review' and walked out."
He pointed out, "What is even more heartbreaking is that Democratic Party lawmakers shamelessly inserted 370 billion won of their own constituency budgets into the COVID-19 quarantine supplementary budget through last-minute maneuvers," and criticized, "The Future United Party tried to actively participate in the supplementary budget review as representatives of the people, but the Democratic Party, which was ordered to finish by the 3rd, rejected even this."
Regarding President Moon's determination to push for the 'North Korea-US summit,' Floor Leader Joo launched a fierce attack, calling it 'disguised peace.' He said, "Over the past three years, this administration's North Korea policy, which claimed peace, has completely collapsed as revealed by the destruction of the inter-Korean liaison office and Bolton's memoirs, yet without explanation or reflection, they are attempting to engage in cosmetic, disguised peace," and added, "Do they still think they can deceive the people and that the people do not know?"
He also said about Minister Choo, "Her tyranny is arrogant and unrestrained," and added, "We will soon decide whether to propose a dismissal or impeachment motion."
