Challenging Top Ranks for 2 Consecutive Weeks at Rocket Mortgage Classic, DeChambeau and Simpson 'Title Contenders' Amid Absence of Top 5
[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] "I've got the hang of it."
'Veteran' No Seung-yeol (29, Lee Soo Group) is in revival mode. On the night of the 2nd (Korean time), he will embark on a grand journey at the Rocket Mortgage Classic (total prize money $7.5 million) of the PGA Tour held at Detroit Golf Club (par 72, 7,334 yards) in Detroit, Michigan, USA, aiming for another victory. This is the fifth tournament of the 2020 season since the resumption amid the COVID-19 pandemic. It will still be held without spectators.
After completing his military service and returning to the tour, No Seung-yeol succeeded in a turnaround at last week's Travelers Championship. After four consecutive missed cuts since the American Express in January, he changed the atmosphere by finishing tied for 11th at the Travelers Championship. He showed solid play over three days, ranking tied 5th on the first day, tied 9th on the second day, and tied 7th on the third day. Although he narrowly missed the 'Top 10,' he earned $139,983 (about 17 million KRW) in prize money.
He demonstrated potential with a 'needle-like iron shot' boasting a green hit rate of 75.00%. "Due to COVID-19, there was about a three-month break, which allowed me to gradually adapt to the tour life routine," said No Seung-yeol. "There are not many tournaments left," he added, expressing his determination to do his best and improve his results for the remainder of the season. Korea is represented by Im Sung-jae (22), ranked 3rd in the PO rankings, along with Kim Si-woo (25) and Lee Kyoung-hoon (29, both from CJ Logistics).
The top 5 players in the world rankings? No. 1 Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland), No. 2 Jon Rahm (Spain), No. 3 Dustin Johnson, No. 4 Justin Thomas, and No. 5 Brooks Koepka (all from the USA)?will not participate. 'Hulk' Bryson DeChambeau (USA) is strong, leading with powerful long drives and has been in the 'Top 10' for six consecutive tournaments recently. Among the top-ranked players, No. 6 Webb Simpson and No. 7 Patrick Reed (both USA) will compete. Defending champion Nate Lashley (USA) is dreaming of defending his title.
Bryson DeChambeau is once again challenging for his first win of the season at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.
