All Elementary, Middle, and High Schools in Gwangju Region to Replace Classes with Remote Learning for 2-3 Days

From the 6th to the 15th, Sequential School Attendance

All Elementary, Middle, and High Schools in Gwangju Region to Replace Classes with Remote Learning for 2-3 Days

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] All elementary, middle, and high schools in the Gwangju area will conduct remote classes on the 2nd and 3rd.

The Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 1st that to proactively respond to the risk situation caused by the spread of COVID-19 community infections, remote classes will be held on the 2nd and 3rd, and from the 6th to the 15th, a method of reducing student density for in-person attendance will be applied.

This decision was made in consultation with the Ministry of Education and health authorities.

For elementary and middle schools, about one-third of all students will attend school from the 6th to the 15th, and for high schools, about two-thirds of all students will attend. The remaining students will take remote classes.

In the case of kindergartens, attached kindergartens operate together with elementary schools, so to align with them, remote classes will be held on the 2nd and 3rd. Public single kindergartens and private kindergartens will attend school normally along with Gwangju city daycare centers.

The Gwangju Office of Education will implement administrative measures restricting gatherings by recommending suspension of facility operations for large academies with more than 300 people until the 15th. Academies with fewer than 300 people are also asked to refrain from operating facilities as much as possible.

Also, when operation is unavoidable, they requested strict adherence to quarantine rules such as all attendees wearing masks, temperature checks, maintaining visitor logs, keeping a certain distance between people, and disinfecting facilities.

They especially urged students to thoroughly conduct self-diagnosis and temperature checks before attending school.

Additionally, for the next two weeks, students, parents, and staff are requested to refrain from visiting multi-use facilities such as karaoke rooms and PC rooms, as well as from small gatherings and religious activities.

Superintendent Jang Hwikuk said, “To prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the community and protect the safety of school members, we decided to reduce student density for in-person attendance,” and added, “The Gwangju Office of Education will thoroughly prepare to ensure that the curriculum combining in-person and remote classes proceeds smoothly and will make every effort to maintain quarantine.”
