[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Kia Motors announced on the 1st that it sold a total of 207,406 units in June, a 12.1% decrease compared to the same period last year.
In the domestic market, 60,005 units were sold, marking a 41.5% increase from 42,405 units in the same period last year. On the other hand, overseas sales amounted to 147,401 units, showing a 23.8% decrease from 193,442 units in the same period last year.
By model, the Sportage was the best-selling vehicle in the global market with 30,792 units sold, followed by the Seltos with 25,550 units and the Sorento with 22,426 units.
The best-selling vehicle in the domestic market was the Sorento (11,596 units), which ranked first in Kia's monthly sales for three consecutive months. Passenger car models sold a total of 25,766 units, including 10,145 units of the K5, 5,652 units of the K7, and 3,260 units of the Morning.
Recreational vehicles (RVs), including the Sorento, sold a total of 28,361 units, with 5,536 units of the Seltos, 3,286 units of the Carnival, and 2,548 units of the Mohave. Commercial models sold a total of 5,878 units, including 5,657 units of the Bongo III, combining buses and trucks.
In exports, the Sportage led overseas sales with 28,337 units sold, followed by the Seltos with 20,014 units and the K3 (Forte) with 15,992 units.
A Kia Motors official stated, "Although management uncertainty has increased due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are minimizing negative impacts through proactive risk management. In the second half of the year, we will overcome difficulties by leading with new models such as the Carnival and Sportage."
