[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daeseop] The Small and Medium Business Corporation announced on the 30th that it will hold an on-site meeting with small and medium-sized enterprises in the shipbuilding industry in Geoje, Gyeongnam.


The meeting will be held this afternoon in the conference room of Gigdeuk Industry within the Obi General Industrial Complex in Geoje, Gyeongnam. Kim Hakdo, Chairman of the Small and Medium Business Corporation, and 10 representatives of small and medium-sized enterprises will attend. They will listen to the current status and difficulties of the shipbuilding industry and discuss ways to overcome the crisis.


Gigdeuk Industry is a specialized company in vending equipment for shipbuilding and offshore plants. Chairman Kim Hakdo also plans to tour the production site of Gigdeuk Industry.


The small and medium-sized enterprise representatives attending this meeting are expected to express difficulties such as order gaps and lack of liquidity caused by the impact of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).


They also plan to request budget expansion for companies with more than 7 years of business experience, deferment of installment payments on existing loans, securing stable skilled workers, and support for smartization of shipbuilding sites.


Chairman Kim said, "The shipbuilding industry is a representative key industry that led the economic revival of our country, but it has faced great difficulties in recent years. The Small and Medium Business Corporation will continuously pay attention and make efforts so that small and medium-sized enterprises can become the center of economic growth through proactive budget support to ensure that the recovery effect of the shipbuilding industry reaches small and medium-sized enterprises quickly."
