Busan University of Science and Technology announced on the 29th that it held the "Busan University of Science and Technology Baseball Team Inauguration Ceremony" on the 26th in the main conference room of the university's main building and will officially start operating the baseball team.
Mr. Lee Seung-jong (former head coach of Suncheon Hyochon High School) was appointed as the first manager.
Manager Lee Seung-jong has been recognized as an exemplary coach in amateur baseball for his excellent communication skills and leadership with players, having served as a coach at Seoul Jungang Middle School and Busan Gaeseong High School.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by President Kang Ki-sung, Manager Lee Seung-jong, coaching staff, and university officials, marking the beginning of the baseball team's establishment.
Representatives from Mirae Hospital, designated as the baseball team's official hospital, and the Busan Thoracic Surgery Varicose Vein Clinic attended and promised to provide all medical treatments and health checkups for the university's baseball players free of charge in the future.
To establish the baseball team, Busan University of Science and Technology newly created a major in game coaching within the Department of Rehabilitation Exercise and Health, securing various support infrastructures such as curriculum reform and practice facilities to allow elite baseball talents to continuously train.
Starting this year, 30 new baseball players will be recruited. After graduation, these players can transfer to major four-year university baseball teams such as Dong-A University and Dong-Eui University, and by completing advanced courses in their junior and senior years, they can pursue careers as sports game instructors.
President Kang Ki-sung said, "We are building various sports-related infrastructures to enhance the welfare of enrolled students," adding, "We established the baseball team to open more social advancement opportunities for high school students who have studied Korea's popular sport, baseball."
President Kang also promised, "The university will provide full support so that students can realize their dreams as baseball players and pursue various career paths such as becoming professional coaches or game instructors."
