Four People in Their 60s and One Teenager... Health Authorities Investigating Movement and Infection Routes
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] A cluster of COVID-19 cases has occurred in Gwangju and Jeonnam. They are the 34th and 35th confirmed cases in Gwangju and the 21st to 23rd in Jeonnam, involving a pair of sisters in their 60s, their husbands, and a grandson.
According to Gwangju Metropolitan City on the 27th, a woman in her 60s, Ms. A, and her husband Mr. B, residing in Dong-gu, Gwangju, tested positive for COVID-19 in the afternoon.
Ms. A showed symptoms such as fever, cough, sputum, and chills starting from the 24th. On the afternoon of the 26th, she was tested at the Nam-gu Public Health Center screening clinic, and received a positive result around 3 PM that day.
Ms. A’s confirmed movements so far include visiting Chonnam National University Hospital in Hwasun from 10:00 to 10:30 AM on the 23rd, then visiting Gwangnyeoksa Temple in Unnim-dong until 12:30 PM. From 1:00 to 2:50 PM, she stayed at her home in Yongsan-dong, then moved to Eunmisa in Chungjang-ro for 15 minutes starting at 3 PM.
Afterwards, she visited Goryeo Textile in Seo-gu until 3:50 PM and returned home around 4 PM. She used her own car for all travel.
On the 24th, she visited Duam Korean Medicine Hospital in Sansu-dong, Dong-gu from 12 to 1 PM and returned home 30 minutes later. On the 25th, she went to another city at 2 PM and returned at 4 PM.
On the 26th, she stopped by another city at 2 PM, returned at 3 PM, and at 5 PM used her husband Mr. B’s car to visit the Nam-gu Public Health Center screening clinic for testing before returning home.
Additional movements of Ms. A and Mr. B are still being investigated.
Also, Ms. A’s sister and her husband, who live in Mokpo City, Jeonnam, and their teenage grandson, who dined together with Ms. A, have also tested positive.
Ms. C, a woman in her 60s, complained of cough and chills on the afternoon of the 26th and was tested at the Mokpo City screening clinic.
Ms. C tested positive in the morning at a public-private institution test, and a second test at the Health and Environment Research Institute at 5 PM also showed a positive result, confirming the diagnosis.
Ms. C’s husband Mr. D and grandson Mr. E also tested positive.
They have not traveled abroad recently and are known to have visited Gwangju several times recently for Mr. D’s cancer treatment.
Health authorities in Gwangju and Jeonnam are conducting epidemiological investigations on this family to trace their movements and investigate the infection routes.
