Santa Fe and Carnival Launch Imminent... Dramatically Transformed

[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Hyundai Kia Motors will unveil new models of its main mid-size sport utility vehicle (SUV) and minivan next month. Having endured a challenging time in the first half of the year due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), the company plans to turn the tide with these new models.

The first to be introduced is Hyundai's The New Santa Fe. The New Santa Fe is a facelift model of the 4th generation Santa Fe, which was launched in February 2018, and is scheduled for an online unboxing on the 30th of this month, followed by a release on the 1st of next month. The Santa Fe was the first SUV to join the '100,000 units per year club' in 2018.

Although The New Santa Fe is a facelift model, it is expected to feature significantly upgraded product quality and safety, making it appear as a new car-level transformation upon release.

The New Santa Fe inherits the sophisticated image of the existing Santa Fe while transforming into a luxurious and substantial mid-size sport utility vehicle (SUV). The front features an integrated grille and sharp headlamps. The separated headlamps divided vertically harmonize with the wide horizontal grille, and the T-shaped daytime running lights (DRL) create a strong impression.

The New Santa Fe is equipped with the same engine as the new Sorento. Hyundai has excluded the 2.0 diesel to enhance driving performance and installed a 2.2 diesel engine instead, while upgrading the 2.0 gasoline turbo to a 2.5 gasoline turbo. However, the hybrid model will not be released within this year.

Kia Motors is drawing attention with the 4th generation Carnival. The exterior of the 4th generation Carnival was revealed on the 23rd. Kia explained that the design departs from the typical minivan image.

The new Carnival adopts a design concept of 'majestic volume,' making it closer to an SUV form. The 4th generation Carnival measures 5155mm in length, 1995mm in width, and 1740mm in height, with the length increased by 40mm and the width by 10mm compared to the previous model. The wheelbase is 3090mm, 30mm longer than the previous model.

However, the release date for the highly anticipated 4th generation Carnival Hi-Limousine remains undecided. Additionally, considering demand from mobility companies and others, Kia reviewed the possibility of equipping the 4th generation Carnival with an LPG powertrain but ultimately decided not to launch it.
