[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Province (Governor Kim Young-rok) announced on the 26th that it conducted a 'marine debris cleanup activity' around Yangsan Beach in Jaeun-myeon, Sinan-gun, Jeonnam, in celebration of Marine Debris Cleanup Week.
This activity was promoted in anticipation of increased tourist visits during the summer vacation season due to the opening of the Cheonsa Bridge and the upcoming openings next month of Sinan Natural Recreation Forest, the World Shell Museum, and the Su-seok Garden.
More than 100 employees from related organizations, including Jeonnam Province, Sinan-gun, Mokpo Maritime Fisheries Office, West Sea Fisheries Management Unit, Mokpo Coast Guard, Korea Marine Environment Corporation, and Sea Environment Keepers, participated and collected about 10 tons of marine debris.
In addition, the Mokpo Coast Guard attracted attention by distributing sacks made by recycling promotional banners used in the 21st National Assembly election as part of the 'Marine Debris Reduction Campaign' to participants for collecting debris.
Yoon Young-joo, Director of the Maritime and Port Division of Jeonnam Province, said, "We will continue cleanup activities for a clean and safe Jeonnam sea free of marine debris," and added, "We hope people enjoy swimming safely in the Jeonnam sea and ask for active participation from the public, such as taking back any generated waste."
