[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The cyberattack group Maze claimed to have infiltrated LG Electronics' network and stolen internal information such as source code.
On the 25th (local time), Maze ransomware operators stated that they infiltrated LG Electronics' network and extracted approximately 40GB of Python source code, as well as firmware information related to LG Electronics products for the US mobile carrier AT&T.
The attackers increased pressure by releasing a list of Python source code files they obtained from LG Electronics, some source code content, and lists of firmware files for 41 smartphones and 4 tablets. The source code also included an account list used by partners under the domain 'Lgepartner.com'.
Maze operators are notorious for infiltrating corporate networks, infecting them with ransomware, demanding ransom payments, and if ignored or contact is lost, posting data related to the victim companies. IT specialized media BleepingComputer explained, "Information on how much data or devices Maze has encrypted remains undisclosed and is said to be provided only to LG Electronics."
In response, LG Electronics stated, "Knowing the source code does not necessarily mean that phone information has been leaked, and it is only claimed that the source code was obtained; whether it was actually obtained is unknown," adding, "We have never been threatened."
