[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Junho] The Korea Post Service Headquarters has taken steps to promote the employment of people with disabilities. On the 25th, the headquarters signed a business agreement with the Korea Employment Agency for the Disabled to discover suitable jobs for people with disabilities and expand their hiring.
The headquarters conducts a separate recruitment process for people with disabilities when hiring civil servants and is also engaged in career recruitment for people with severe disabilities. The employment rate of people with disabilities at the headquarters exceeds the mandatory employment rate of 3.4%. However, due to the unique nature of post office fieldwork (such as civil complaints, mail delivery, dispatch, and parcel handling), it has been difficult to identify suitable jobs that match the types and characteristics of disabilities, leading to the signing of this agreement.
Taking this agreement as an opportunity, the headquarters will expand the discovery of suitable jobs through job analysis and increase the hiring of people with disabilities to realize a sustainable inclusive society. Prior to this, they will expand support services for people with disabilities, such as assistive technology devices, and increase vocational life counselors to support the adaptation of people with disabilities to public service. They also plan to improve the working environment by strengthening education to raise awareness of disabilities.
Park Jongseok, head of the Korea Post Service Headquarters, said, "Through this agreement, we will establish a foundation where civil servants with disabilities can grow 'together,' and we will do our best to make the Korea Post Service Headquarters 'the best workplace where people with disabilities want to work.'"
