Breaking Ground for the New Jamsilbon-dong Complex Building in Songpa-gu

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) will hold the ‘Jamsilbon-dong Complex Office Groundbreaking Ceremony’ on the 23rd at Jamsil Neighborhood Park (230-4 Jamsil-dong).

The existing Jamsilbon-dong Community Service Center (230-1 Jamsil-dong) was built in 1986 and has severely aged, and its location deep inside the alleys limited residents’ accessibility.

In particular, as administrative demands diversified and resident participation became more active, residents have continuously requested the construction of a new office building over the past 10 years.

Accordingly, the district has promoted the ‘Jamsilbon-dong Complex Office Construction’ as a pledge project of the 7th elected term and will break ground on the 23rd.

The groundbreaking ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. on the same day at Jamsil Neighborhood Park and will be conducted on a small scale with about 50 related personnel attending, considering the COVID-19 situation.

The new construction site was prepared at Jamsil Neighborhood Park adjacent to a main road, considering convenience and accessibility. The site area is 763㎡, total floor area 2,460㎡, with 2 basement floors and 5 above-ground floors, scheduled for completion in February 2022.

The complex office will include aging facilities such as the community service center, senior citizens’ center, and public restrooms, which were scattered around Jamsil Neighborhood Park. It will also install a shared childcare communication space called the Joint Childcare Sharing Center and a terrace-style small library for reading books, establishing a complex community facility encompassing leisure, culture, and welfare.

Once the new construction is completed, the district plans to transform the existing Jamsilbon-dong Community Service Center site into a themed neighborhood park for residents.

So far, the district has continuously conveyed residents’ aspirations to Seoul City to secure the site and actively proposed measures such as restoring the green axis of the space cut off by the new construction and improving accessibility and convenience.

As a result, on September 12, 2018, the urban management plan change (draft) for the construction of the Jamsilbon-dong office within the Jamsil Metropolitan Center District 2 Unit Plan Area passed Seoul City’s review, laying the groundwork for the new office to be built within the park.

Along with this, the ‘Jamsilbon-dong Office Construction Advisory Group’ was formed to establish a system allowing residents to participate from the design stage.

Park Seong-su, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, “I am pleased that the long-awaited project of the residents is breaking ground after 10 years,” and added, “Starting with Jamsilbon-dong, we will sequentially complexify aging offices such as Bangi 2-dong to create a ‘livable Songpa’ where residents with diverse needs live together harmoniously.”
