On the 29th, 'One Year of Japan's Export Restrictions: Evaluation and Challenges' Held
Discussion on Competitiveness of Korean Material Industry and Bilateral Cooperation Measures
[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] As the one-year mark approaches since the Japanese government announced its export restrictions against South Korea, discussions on the current competitiveness of our companies' materials, parts, and equipment (SoBuJang) and cooperation measures between the two countries are expected to take place within private economic organizations.
According to the business community on the 19th, the Federation of Korean Industries (FKI) will hold a seminar titled "One Year of Japanese Export Restrictions: Evaluation and Tasks" on the 29th at the FKI Conference Center in Yeouido, where it will review the SoBuJang development policies promoted at the pan-government level over the past year and discuss future challenges.
At the seminar, Professor Jaegeun Park of Hanyang University's Department of Convergence Electronics Engineering, who serves as the president of the Korean Semiconductor Display Technology Society, will present on "The Impact of Japanese Export Restrictions and Changes in Korea's SoBuJang Competitiveness." Following him, Professor Hongbae Lee from the Department of Trade at Dong-Eui University will focus on "Current Issues and Cooperation Directions in the Korea-Japan SoBuJang Industry."
Professor Park stated, "The government is converting the SoBuJang Special Act into a permanent law and expanding its implementation to strengthen the overall competitiveness of related industries," adding, "I plan to present the practical directions of relevant ministries, including detailed procedures for establishing the basic plan."
Additionally, Professor Lee will emphasize the reasons for cooperation between Korea and Japan, given their geopolitical conditions and the various benefits they have enjoyed in trade, and will focus on the direction of exchanges amid the current export restriction situation.
An FKI official said, "We have prepared an opportunity to review the competitiveness of the domestic SoBuJang industry during the one year of Japanese export restrictions and to hear diverse opinions from businesspeople, experts, and academia on cooperation tasks and current issues."
