Three Consecutive Performances Held from Noon on August 9 at Lotte Concert Hall
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Byung-hee] The 2020 Young Artist Forum and Festival 'Hyun-ak Bon-saek,' a concert introducing young and talented string players, will be held on August 9 at Lotte Concert Hall.
On that day, three performances will take place in one day starting at noon. At noon, 'Bach's Morning,' featuring Bach's unaccompanied works; at 3:30 PM, cellist Lee Jung-hyun, the winner of the 2018 Yoon Isang International Music Competition, will present a 'Cello Recital'; and at 7:30 PM, the stage of 'Hyun-ak Bon-saek,' showcasing the essence of string ensembles, will be held.
In the 'Bach's Morning' concert, violinist Kim Dong-hyun, who won 3rd place at the 2019 Tchaikovsky International Competition, will perform Bach's 'Sonata No. 2 for Unaccompanied Violin.' Violist Lee Seung-won, a former member of the Novus Quartet and currently active as a conductor, will play Bach's 'Suite No. 1 for Unaccompanied Cello' on viola. Kang Seung-min, who placed 5th in the cello category at the 2015 Tchaikovsky International Competition?the first Korean to do so?will perform 'Suite No. 3 for Unaccompanied Cello.' Kim Dong-hyun, Lee Seung-won, and Kang Seung-min will also present Bach's 'Goldberg Variations,' originally composed for keyboard instruments, arranged for string instruments.
Cellist Lee Jung-hyun, preparing the second stage of 'Hyun-ak Bon-saek,' studied abroad in the United States since the 5th grade of elementary school and has lived abroad for a long time. This recital marks her return to Korea for a solo performance after a long time. Lee Jung-hyun will perform 'Four Cities' by Fazil Say, a Turkish pianist and composer. 'Four Cities' is a work inspired by four Turkish cities (Sivas, Hopa, Ankara, Bodrum), blending traditional Turkish music with Western cello sonata forms.
Lee Jung-hyun will also perform 'Arirang Variations,' an unaccompanied violin solo by North Korean violinist Baek Go-san, arranged for cello. Additionally, she will play Debussy's 'Cello Sonata,' composed to embody the French spirit against Germany after the outbreak of World War I, and Shostakovich's only cello sonata, a work expressing human free emotions during the period of artistic repression under the Soviet government.
Lee Jung-hyun also placed in the 2017 Queen Elisabeth Competition. She is currently studying under Gary Hoffman through the resident musician program at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel. In this concert, she will collaborate with pianist Andrew Tyson, who won the 2015 Andr? G?za Competition.
The final performance of 'Hyun-ak Bon-saek' will showcase the essence of string ensembles, starting with eight string players performing solo, then expanding to duets, trios, and an octet.
Violinist Lee Woo-il will perform 'Sonata No. 5 for Unaccompanied Violin' composed by Belgian violinist and composer Eug?ne Ysa?e, and violinist Kim Dong-hyun and violist Lee Seung-won will perform Handel/Halvorsen's 'Passacaglia' as a duet.
